VII. WAFLT SPRING CONFERENCE:
The WAFLT Spring Regional Conference
will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2002 at Lake
Washington High School in Kirkland. WAFLT has prepared
a sympos
ium titled, "Spring Into Interaction:
Standards-Based Communicative Activities." The dynamic
Ron Sims, King County
Executive, and Bill Center, President of the Council
on International Trade will be speaking on "The
Importance of World Languages in the State of
Washington."
After Ron Sims' keynote at 10:00 a.m., break out
sessions for teachers and special guests are
scheduled. While teachers attend sessions
demonstrating standards-based communicative
activities, another session will showcase
students of various grade levels learning a language.
Feel free to attend any of these sessions. Lunch will
follow the break out session. After lunch, Bill Center
will speak about the importance of world languages in
our state
from the perspective of the Council of International
Trade. The day promises to be exciting, informative
and enjoyable. We hope to establish a partnership
between us that guarantees Washington State students
the language advantages that other countries offer
their s
tudents.

VIII. CULTURAL EXCHANGE OPPORTUNITY:
A teacher in Concepción, Chile is looking for s school
to host him and apporximately 10 students for two
weeks in MArch 2003. The students would need families
to stay with while they are here, and would be active
participants in Spanish classes. They teach about the
history and culture of Chile through music, typical
dances, and conversation. In exchange, your students
would be invited to visit them for the same amount of
time.
For more information about this opportunity, contact
Brenda Fisher at bfisher@esd101.net.

If you have any announcements that you would like me
to add to the next BOLE, please email them to me:
bfisher@esd101.net.

¡Hasta la próxima!
