The board is looking for someone to take on the duties

II. MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL

AATSP membership is for the calendar year. For

renewal, please use the form provided on our website.

If you received a form directly from AATSP please

disregard, since it will not include your membership

in our (very active) local chapter.

III. NATIONAL SPANISH EXAMINATION 2002

The National Examinations were developed as a

motivational, extracurricular activity and contest for

students of members of the Association and its

chapters. The NSE, a proficiency-based test of

reading and listening comprehension designed for

junior and senior high school students of Spanish, is

the most widely used test of Spanish in the United

States.

Participants must have their dues paid by December 1,

2001. Please pay before deadline so your name is on

record both at National and State rosters by Dec. 1.

AATSP membership is for the calendar year. To join

IV. NOVEMBER EVENTS

A. Wednesday. November 7, 7 pm, Kane 120 - Dr. Oscar

Arias, Nobel Laureate: "Peace and Justice: A Long-term

Vision for the World". Come hear an

internationally-recognized figure discuss long-term

strategies for peace, including arms control and

demilitarization, conflict resolution, and social

justice for the poor. The former President of Costa

Rica, Dr. Arias won the 1987 Nobel Peace Prize for the

"Arias Peace Plan." Dr. Arias will draw upon his

ongoing experience in the areas of international

relations, conflict resolution, and development, as he

discusses current global concerns. His lecture will be

followed Q & A with the audience. The talk is free and

B. Los Danzantes De Ayacucho- Scissors Dancers of

PERU will be performing at the

University of Washington in Seattle on Thursday,

November 8th from 1:30 p.m. till 2:45 p.m. at Kane

Hall 130. The price is $4 per person. Groups and

classes welcome. The show will be preceded by a short

introduction about their work.

This is the 5th time these dancers have performed in

Seattle. They have recently been featured in the

AmericArtes Festival at the Kennedy Center, the

largest Latin American arts Festival in the country.

They are a four piece ensemble: Two dancers, one

violinist and one harpist.

Two Workshops for Spanish Teachers: Another way of

teaching the Spanish Subjunctive. Sergio Martinez, a

Spanish teacher from Guatemala will be presenting

strategies for teaching the subjunctive: "All the

Spanish Subjunctive is presented here, in one class,

through a very detailed

diagram. Step by step, you can help your students to

become comfortable in the usage of this grammatical

tense. From beginners to advanced students, this is

the easiest way to learn and improve their command of

the subjunctive." Using songs in your class. A CD with

songs for the Spanish class presented by Ethan Rogol,

from "Lengua Rica", a language school in Olympia, WA.

Flamenco Dance: During the break there will be a

flamenco show by "Children of the Revolution". Clock

V. DECEMBER EVENT: SEPHARDIC COMMUNITIES IN LATIN

AMERICA

A unique oportunity to learn about Sephardic

communitieis in Latin America through talks, films, a

roundtable and even a Sephardic meal. Sponsored by

Chapter of the AATSP.
