1.  NUEVA REDACTORA PROVISIONAL DEL BOLE.

While I am in Vermont and then Spain, Bridget Yaden,
Professor of Spanish at PLU, will fill in for me.
Since the BOLE is a very time-consuming task, please
assist her by submitting information of interest,
whether they be jobs in your district, a cultural
event in your part of the state, etc. Bridget will be
using this address to write BOLE, but you may reach
her personally at yadenlbe@plu.edu.  Additionally,
chapter contacts and queries should be addressed to
provisional secretary Carol Froelich,
cfroeli@thurston.com.  Membership questions go to
Treasurer Dandy Porter, dporter@universityprep.org.
Please don't forget that you voted as a chapter to
raise dues for the year 2001 to $10 last October in
Spokane!

2.  FILM FESTIVAL EVENT A SUCCESS.

On June 3rd, 15 chapter members (about half of what we
had at our last two events), went to see the
hysterically funny MANOLITO GAFOTAS during the Seattle
International Film Festival.  We had tapas and
conversation beforehand at Dandy Porter's.  Thanks,
Dandy, and to everyone who came.  It was especially
nice to meet first-time attendee Kurt Wimer of Bush
Prairie High School.

3.  2000-2001 EVENTS IN PLANNING

The other members of the junta directiva are hoping
you will attend LA VIDA ES SUEÑO at WAFLT in Portland
this fall.  Contact Oriana Cadman, ocadman@kalama.com.
For this you must send a $15 check by August
15th...NO LATE PAYMENTS ACCEPTED...PERIOD.

We are also planning a MERENGUE DANCE PARTY as part of
our fall event, EN FOCO: CARIBE.  There will be clock
hours, and not only dance instruction, but about three
hours of instruction on CUBA, PUERTO RICO and THE
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, and it will include concrete
things to bring back to your classroom.  This will be
the Saturday after Veterans Day.

In the spring there will be a joint AATSP-AATF TPRS
Workshop.  Details to be announced.

4.  EASTERN VICE PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION

Kerry Chama of A.C. Davis High School in Yakima is
currently filling in due to the resignation in
February of the previous Eastern Vice President.  We
are having an election this fall for the position,
which is a two-year commitment.  Contact Paloma
Borreguero paloma@u.washington.edu, or Oriana Cadman
ocadman@kalama.com if interested.

5.  NATIONAL SPANISH EXAM

Oriana will be writing an article for an upcoming BOLE
explaining the benefits of participation by your
students in the NSE: college portfolio, award
certificates and scholarship potential.  Look for this
in an upcoming BOLE.

Wish Bridget good luck as she tries her hand at BOLE!
I will be writing electronic postcards from time to
time about my experiences and Bridget will pass them
on!

Saludos cordiales y hasta luego.

Jay
