would like to ask you to send all the requested
articles, information or other submissions, ideas and
suggestions for future editions, requests for extra
copies, and all other business to it. In this way, we
can work more efficiently as a team. Thanks for your
 help!

IV.  STILL TIME TO NOMINATE SPANISH TEACHER OF THE
 YEAR:

JUAN DE FUCA CHAPTER SPANISH TEACHER 1999 AWARD.
While there is no guarantee that this is an award that
 can be made
each year, the chapter has $100 from an anonymous
donor who wants to see a K-12 socio receive
 recognition for:

 1.  Building a program and increasing world language
 enrollment
 through dynamism and innovation; and/or

 2.  Bolstering World Language awareness in the
 community in which they teach.

 Instructions: Nominate a SOCIO/SOCIA in a 1-page
letter addressing the two areas above AS WELL AS OTHER
OUTSTANDING QUALITIES.  Don't be too general (e.g.
"He's always there for students," "She loves
Spanish.")   BE SPECIFIC.  "His love for the language
comes through in such and such a way," etc.

Provide 2 references whom we WILL call.  One should be
an administrator.  If you submit a student reference,
it must be in addition to two adult references.
Provide phone numbers, and indicate whether these are
work or home numbers.  Home numbers are better, if you
can get them, because we work during the day just like
you!  Be sure to identify where you work, in what way
you know the candidate's work, and how we can contact
 you: phone and e-mail.

Send your nominations POSTMARKED NO LATER THAN APRIL
 30 to:

 JAY ADAMS-FEUER
 SECRETARY, JUAN DE FUCA AATSP

ONLY!  Please do not submit inline e-mail text or
attachments that do not use these programs.

 V.  AND YOU CAN STILL RUN FOR THE BOARD OR REQUEST
CONSIDERATION FOR AN APPOINTED POSITION.  See the
 previous BOLECTRONICO.

VI.  NATIONAL SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE STANDARDS.

Gail Guntermann talked at PNCFL at her AATSP keynote
about national standards.  I think you will find these
highly relevant: how do we in Washington and we in
District X measure up.  How and what are people
measuring in classrooms across the USA?  What do the
 experts have to say?

Well, the word is in.  A number of socios have been
requesting information.  I just got a letter from
 National stating the following:

"The order forms for the kit "Standards for Foreign
Language Learning in the 21st Century" have just been
made available.  It includes the updated text of the
original, pan-language "Standards for Foreign Language
Learning: Preparing for the 21st Century" PLUS NINE
NEW SECTIONS DEVOTED TO STANDARDS FOR SPECIFIC
 LANGUAGES INCLUDING SPANISH AND PORTUGUESE.

Many members have called the national AATSP Office in
Greeley, Colorado requesting ordering information for
 it."

I have a form which I can duplicate: just e-mail me.
Also, you can get one straight from National by
 e-mailing lsandste@bentley.unco.edu.

Happy Teaching, Happy Striking, and remember: Summer
vacation is only two calendar months away!

 Hasta pronto.
