I. BASQUE CULTURAL WORKKSHOP: A SMASHING SUCCESS
We learned so much, ad got clock hours to boot.
Thirty-four people attended, 29 from AATSP and
5 from
AATF. ALl eight nonmember Spanish teachers
in
attendance decided to join at the end of the
day!
Marian Thom's gorgeous home overlooking Puget
Sound
was the setting for Kutz Arrieta, Milagros Meza,
Nick
Vroman, Mixele Etxart and others from the Basque
Club
of Seattle to teach us about Basque linguistics,
a few
words of the language, Basque History, Literature
(including the thriving improvisational poetry
tradition known as Bertsolari), politics (including
the Mondragón Cooperative model), and
traditions. We
also feasted on a sumptuous Basque lunch created
by
AATF President Robert Slabodnik and the Culinary

hostessing you provided; thanks also to you Robert,
