II. BASQUE EVENT: Address enclosed!
Those of you who have not registered, the cutoff
is
November 6, and we have some space still available
to
hear our five Basques present on food, language,
customs, holidays, music, etc. Check last
week's
BOLECTRONICO, or just e-mail me for a form.
Let us
not forget the Basque lunch. Anyhow, here
is the
address and some comments from Marian Thom:
17123 13th N. W., Shoreline, 98177. If it
would help,
I have a fairly decent map that is easy to follow,
for
those who like the graphic assistance, or I can
"walk
people here" from I-5 to our home. The
problem with
this community is that the various streets don't
necessarily go straight through, as they are
interrupted by green belts, etc. From Shorewood
High
School, it's about 5 minutes as the crow flies,
but as
visitors fumble through the various turns, it
can be
confusing.
Marian will have a form reply, so e-mail her at
mariant@cmc.net for directions. She will
help you
out.
III. FROM EDUARDO TOBAR: CHILEAN EXCHANGE?
Dear teacher,
Do you know of an American family interested in
a
student exchange with a Chilean family?
Two
fourteen-year old Chilean boys who would like
to spend
their summer vacation (January and February 2000)
in
Seattle living with an American family and attending
regular classes at a High School, their main
goal is
to improve their English. They offer the same
deal to
two American boys. One of them lives in
Concepción
and the other one lives in Santiago.
This is not part of any formal program. A Chilean
friend of mine contacted me asking whether I
could
help him find an American family for his nephews.
It
would be up to the families to agree on the details
of
the exchange.
If you are interested or would like to know more
about
this possibility please contact Billy Ernst at
biernst@fish.washington.edu / (206)632-8213
IV. SPRING REGIONAL: WAFLT.
I promised two socios details of the Spring Regional
in this week's BOLECTRONICO. I apologize
for not
being able to give concrete details this week.
When
things become clearer, fairly soon, we can discuss
the
spring regional.
V. TERTULIA DECEMBER 4, HOME OF JAY ADAMS-FEUER,
SEATTLE. Paloma Borreguero and I will be
there, and
possibly some other Board members for an informal
Idea
Share and a pleasant late morning meal.
This does not
carry all the to-do of most of our events.
It's a
chance to speak some Spanish (since English will
be
informally banned) and partake of some camaraderie
in
a professional context. A Peruvian acquaintance
suggested that he might like to share some slides
of
Lima if people were interested.
Y esto es todo para el momento.
