I. FREE WORKSHOP AT UW, MAY 1, 1999.
There will be a no-fee workshop
for all world languages teachers with Thomas
Keith Cothrun on
"Understanding and Implementing National
Standards" on May 1, 1999 on
the UW campus in Smith 205 from 10 a.m.
to 3:30 p.m.
Mr. Cothrun will provide participants with
the background information
needed to understand why and how the standards
were developed, and
their place in the larger picture of educational
reform. Various
activities will allow participants to see
how what they already do
relates to the standards, and what modifications
might be needed to
assist their students
in meeting them. Mr. Cothrun will
consider the WA State Higher
Education Coordinating Board admissions
standards as well as the ACTFL
proficiency guidelines and the National
Standards.
Dr. Cothrun teaches German in Las Cruces,
New Mexico. He has served
on the K-12 Standards for Foreign Language
Task Force, the AATG
Student Standards K-16 Task force, and
currently chairs the national
Board of
